Building a litigation chronology with AI
Oct 27 2026 · Method
A chronology is the backbone of the case. AI helps assemble it — if every row points to the record.
Build a litigation chronology with one row per event and a document reference in every row. AI is useful for extracting candidate events from a bundle and drafting the narrative around them; it is not reliable for dates or party names, so every row must be checked against the source. The discipline of a referenced row is also what lets you draft a statement of facts where every assertion is traceable.
The rule of the row
One event per row, one document reference per row. A chronology without references is a story; with them, it is evidence.
Where AI fits
- Extract candidate events from a bundle.
- Draft the surrounding narrative.
- Never trust it for dates or names unchecked.
